How old do I have to be to use Gizmo?

Gizmo's minimum age is 13, no exceptions. Here's why.

The minimum age for using Gizmo is 13. Unfortunately, even with parental consent, we can't lift the age restriction at the moment. We're looking into expanding access to younger students in the future though!

Why is there an age restriction?

The age restriction exists for privacy and safety reasons. Gizmo collects learning data and includes interactive features subject to online privacy laws, such as the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), which restricts data collection for users under 13.

Can parental consent allow children under 13 to use Gizmo?

No. Users must be 13 or older to use Gizmo, regardless of parental consent.

Age verification process

If Gizmo detects that a user may be under 13, an age verification process is required. Users will need to:

  1. Submit a selfie (a clear photo of their face).

  2. Upload a photo of a government-issued photo ID (e.g., passport, driver’s licence, or national ID).

Once these steps are completed, users who meet the age requirement can continue using the app.

If you are 13 or older and still see an age-related alert, follow the in-app age verification steps or contact support with evidence, such as a screenshot of the alert.
