Can I change the questions I'm asked when quizzing?

Prefer multiple choice, typing or voice answers? Pick your quiz style.

Yes, you can!

When doing a quiz, you can see which question type you're being asked by clicking the cog ⚙️ in the top right hand corner.

After clicking on it, you can choose what question type you prefer under Preferred question style. Gizmo will then prioritise these when picking your next question.

The 5 different types of questions

Multiple choice only

This mode gives you the right answer plus 3 AI generated wrong answers. These right answers are selected from cards with a highlight.

Typing preferred

This mode gives you a text box to type in your answer to any card that has a highlighted word or phrase. If the highlight has more than one word in it, you can type the words in any order.

Voice preferred

Answer out loud instead of typing or tapping. Gizmo listens for your spoken answer on cards with a highlighted word or phrase.

Flashcards only

Also known as "flip cards". This mode gives you the chance to quiz yourself and shows you the front of the card only. You can then see the other side and track if you got it right or not.

Mixed

A combination of all the question types above, plus the option to match a pair, true or false and ordering questions. Toggle Include voice answers on or off to control whether spoken answers are included in the mix.

📝 If Gizmo runs out of a specific type of question, it will ask you another to keep you quizzing and learning

More quiz settings

Below your question style, you'll also find two extra toggles:

  • Hide options initially: hides your answer choices until you tap to reveal them, so you can try to answer first

  • Lightning rounds: when on, an occasional question within your normal quiz gets its own 10-second timer, the quicker you answer, the more XP you earn from it

📝 Lightning rounds are different to a Speed run: a Speed run is a separate 2-minute timed challenge you can start from the round-complete screen, answering as many questions as possible.
