Memorise mode is one of our core study modes. It uses spaced repetition and active recall to help you remember your flashcards for the long term, not just the night before an exam.
Starting a Memorise session
To get started, open a deck and tap Memorise. Gizmo will begin quizzing you on your cards straight away.
How Gizmo decides what to ask you
Gizmo uses spaced repetition to decide when to show you each card again, based on how well you know it. See What is spaced repetition? for how it works and why it's so effective.
What kinds of questions will I be asked?
By default, Gizmo uses a mix of question types. You can change this at any time by tapping the cog ⚙️ in the top right during a session, see Can I change the questions I'm asked when quizzing? for the full settings. The five question types are:
Multiple choice - Pick the right answer from four options (the wrong ones are AI-generated)
Typing - Type in the highlighted word or phrase from a card
Voice - Answer out loud instead of typing or tapping
Flashcards only - See the front of the card and reveal the back to check yourself
Mixed - A combination of all types, plus match the pair, true or false and ordering questions
💡 If Gizmo runs out of a specific question type, it will switch to another to keep your session going
What are the green highlighted words?
The green words on your cards are what Gizmo quizzes you on. These are added automatically when you import cards, but you can also highlight your own words by clicking and dragging over the text you want to be tested on.
Tips for getting the most out of Memorise mode
Study a little every day rather than cramming. Spaced repetition works best with regular short sessions
If a question type isn't working for you, change it using the ⚙️ Settings mid-session
Make sure your key terms are highlighted in green so Gizmo knows exactly what to test you on
